Quiet Reflection Sunday

Let our New Year's resolution be this:
we will be there for one another as
fellow members of humanity,
in the finest sense of the word.

Quiet Reflection Sunday-Christmas

...Christmas means a spirit of love, a time when the love
of God and love of our fellow man should prevail...
a time when our thoughts and deeds and the spirit of
our lives manifests the presence of God.

George F. McDougall

Quiet Reflection Sunday

Christmas is not a time nor a season,
but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill,
to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real
spirit of Christmas.

There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents,
the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of
people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you
will truly have defeated age.

Quiet Reflection Sunday

Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years.
We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm
wrinkles the soul.

In My Studio-Rose Painting

After a lengthy period of time, I finally finished this painting of a dear friend's rose.
Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the rose.

It is done on watercolor paper with acrylic paints.

Quailcrest Herb Farm

This is Quailcrest Herb Farm from the outside. It is a wonderful place in Wooster, Ohio. They have extensive herb gardens on the property. The first picture is of the house as you enter the property. It is where the owners live. The second building is the Tracy Barn, you can reserve it for special events.. The third picture is the entrance to the greenhouse. They have plants for sale outside too. If you are in a wheelchair or walker you will be able to get in the greenhouse through the walkway above. It is difficult to get around to see the plants outside. That area is set up like a garden, with small pathways.

The first three photos above were taken outside the greenhouse. The photos after were taken inside the greenhouse. It is easy to get around in a wheelchair and walker inside the greenhouse. Overall the place is lovely. In the spring they have a garden fair. Crafter's are invited to sell their handmade gardening items, there are antique gardening items also.. It is great fun. A scooter is the best way to get around the area, I use a walker with wheels and a seat. This year the show is June 11 and 12. I would recommend coming the first day. All the great things sell out quickly. Quailcrest has a website. www.quailcrestherbfarm.com. One more thing, they do not have wheelchairs to use , you need to provide your own.

Sunday Supper- Kitchen Sink Salad

I like to participate in the group #SundaySupper on twitter and facebook. Every Sunday people
share recipes and photos of what they are making for dinner.

Well Kitchen Sink Salad was my recipe for this past Sundays supper. I also made flavored
water to serve with it. I call the salad Kitchen Sink because I put everything in the fridge
into the salad. I remember an old saying, everything but the kitchen sink...

Kitchen Sink Salad

lettuce
spinach
carrots
left over grilled chicken

*use whatever you have in the frig, sometimes I add strawberries, cheese, walnuts, dried fruit

Mix your salad up and add your favorite dressing.

My daughter had made bread with pesto in it so I had that with the salad.

Flavored Water

pineapple, fresh or frozen, cut up
mint
water

Add the fruit and mint to your pitcher and muddle it with a spoon or muddler.
Add water.
Cover and put in frig overnight.

you can add sugar if you want, I happen to like it without sugar

*you can add any fruit and herb you wish, strawberries, rosemary, lemon balm, watermelon

Strawberry Jam

Making strawberry jam is a tradition in my family.  When my children were young we would
pick strawberries together at a farm in my area called Fitch's. While I can no longer pick strawberries, my daughter makes the trek and brings the haul home. Last year she took my grandson,
apparently being three means eating the strawberries as you pick them.

I make freezer jam as I find that to be the easiest for me in my current circumstances. I use liquid
pectin. The directions are clear and the results are perfect every time. They even make a low sugar/
no sugar package of pectin. I managed to get 7 jars of jam this year.

The wonderful part is during the winter months we have a touch of spring as we spread the jam
on biscuits and toast. It is also wonderful on ice cream. Strawberry jam makes a wonderful gift, especially for people who cannot pick their own. I have some elderly neighbors who just love
receiving a small jar of the jam every year. I have some small Ball jars that I put the jam in for them.

If you haven't made strawberry jam, this is a great start. It's simple and delicious.
