I have been having fun this summer going to garage sales. The thrill of the hunt, but less violent than actual hunting. Although some people who go to garage sales can be quite aggressive.
Today was an exciting day. I found an Underwood Typewriter. They were asking $25.00, I asked them if they would take $15.00. They agreed. I told her I was an artist and I had intended to use the keys for a project. She said she was at an art show and someone had made earings out of the keys. Very clever. Well, I told her I could not possibly take it apart. The Underwood is in mint condition. She was pleased. Apparently it had belonged to her brother.
When I go to garage sales I know what I'm looking for and what I want to do with an item if I find it. What happens then, I simply cannot use it, cannot cut it up or take it apart. Does this happen to you? I'm curious, how many times have you purchased something in a garage sale, had plans to use it and just could not bring yourself to change it into something else?
I've run into these problems more on garbage picking as I don't go to garage sales much. Last big dive I found this really old carved wood chair that just needed a little sand, stain, and fabric to fix it up. I took it apart and realized it was infested with termites... It was a sad day as i had to put it right back in the dumpster and of course clean up the mess I made.
ReplyDeleteI think on average 50% of what I get out of the trash makes it to my original goal. Do you have better luck in the garage sale world?
Hi Susan ~ good luck with your blog!! How is the journal coming? It's hard to find time to blog, I know ~ but keep on working at it!!! That's fine advice coming from me, who gets in one or two postings a week!!! Have a happy holiday weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteNice typewriter Susan (and I love the look of your blog).
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by to say Hi! I look forward to our new adventure into Joy. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool typewriter! I didn't see this before somehow. I'm usually pretty good about putting garage sale finds to use, but not always. :-)
